Hospital—But When I Secretly Took Her, the Doctor Found Something He Had Been Hiding

“Mom?”

“Yes?”

“Please don’t let Dad be mad at me.”

I bent down and kissed her forehead.

“Your only job is to get better. I’ll handle the adults.”

Then they wheeled her away.

I stood in the hallway until the doors closed.

For the first time in fifteen years, I was completely alone with the consequences of a decision Curtis and I should have made together.

And I had never felt more certain that I had done the right thing.

Part 8: What the Surgeon Found
The operation lasted several hours.

I sat in the waiting room with my hands clasped so tightly that my fingers hurt.

Every time the doors opened, I looked up.

Finally, Dr. Raman came out.

I stood immediately.

“How is she?”

“She’s stable. The surgery went well.”

I almost collapsed with relief.

“Was it cancer?”

“We won’t know the final diagnosis until pathology examines the tissue. But the appearance was reassuring. We removed the mass and were able to preserve healthy ovarian tissue.”
