Hospital—But When I Secretly Took Her, the Doctor Found Something He Had Been Hiding

THE SECRET HE REFUSED TO LET HER TELL
Part 1: The Night Everything Changed
The night I found my fifteen-year-old daughter doubled over on the bathroom floor, vomiting and clutching her stomach, my husband didn’t even get up from his recliner.

“Leave her alone, Paula. She’s overreacting again,” Curtis said, without looking up from his phone. “We’re not throwing money away on the ER over a tantrum.”

I stared at him.

Our daughter was on the cold tile, her hair stuck to her forehead, her face almost gray.

“She’s been sick for weeks.”

“She’s been complaining for weeks. There’s a difference.”

I crouched beside Sadie.

“Sweetheart, can you stand?”

She shook her head.

“It hurts, Mom.”

Her voice was barely audible.

“Where does it hurt?”

She pressed both hands against the lower right side of her abdomen.

“It feels like something is pulling me from the inside.”

Curtis sighed loudly.

“And now we’re making it sound dramatic.”
