I began crying.
“Thank you.”
Dr. Raman sat beside me.
“The mass was a mature cystic teratoma, commonly called a dermoid cyst. These are usually benign. They can contain different types of mature tissue, including hair, skin, and sometimes teeth.”
I stared at her.
“Teeth?”
She nodded.
“That may sound alarming, but it’s a known feature of this type of cyst. The important thing is that we removed it, and the preliminary findings are reassuring. The final pathology report will confirm the diagnosis.”
I covered my mouth.
All those weeks of pain.
All those nights when Sadie had curled up with a heating pad.
All those times Curtis had told me she was pretending.
And the thing inside her had continued growing.
“Was it twisted?”
“Yes. The ovary had undergone torsion, which compromises blood flow. That’s why we didn’t want to delay treatment. We were able to untwist it and preserve the tissue.”
