My 13-year-old son sold his beloved guitar to buy a new wheelchair for a girl in his class

Rebecca slowly sat down.

Officer Cooper asked, “Who is he?”

Rebecca didn’t answer at first.

When she finally did, her voice was barely audible.

“His name is Aaron Pike.”

Maya’s father frowned.

“Does he work for Mobility Bridge?”

Rebecca looked at him.

“He used to.”

“Doing what?”

“He collected old wheelchairs from families after replacement units were delivered.”

I understood before anyone said the words aloud.

My skin prickled.

Rebecca closed the folder.

“He was also the person responsible for delivering Maya’s chair.”

Julian looked at Maya.

Then at the officers.

And suddenly the gift he had purchased was no longer simply a gift.

It was evidence that something had been wrong long before any of us noticed.

Officer Daniels reached for his phone.

But before he could make the call, Rebecca said something that stopped him.

“There is one more thing.”

Everyone turned.

She looked directly at Julian.
