“I can’t make a legal determination. But the report indicates that the clinic recommended urgent evaluation. Sadie’s condition required treatment, and I’m glad you brought her here.”
I nodded.
“Will she recover?”
“We expect a good recovery, although she’ll need follow-up appointments. The final pathology report will give us more information.”
Then Dr. Raman looked at Sadie.
“You’re allowed to tell us when something hurts. You’re allowed to ask questions. And you’re never responsible for keeping medical information secret from someone who is trying to help you.”
Sadie nodded.
After the doctor left, I sat beside my daughter.
She looked at me.
“Mom, what happens now?”
I brushed her hair away from her forehead.
“Now you recover.”
“And Dad?”
I took a breath.
“Your father and I will have to deal with what happened. But you don’t have to fix it.”
She nodded.
For the first time in weeks, she seemed to relax.
