When I told her what was happening, she went quiet.
“Paula, do you still have access to your joint bank account?”
“Yes.”
“Look at the transactions from the last three months.”
I opened the banking app.
Megan asked me to read out several entries.
Then she said:
“Paula, I think you need to download every statement before Curtis realizes you’re looking.”
“Why?”
“Because these payments don’t look like ordinary household expenses.”
Part 6: The Account
While Sadie was being monitored, I sat in the hospital family lounge and downloaded our bank statements.
At first, the transactions looked ordinary.
Mortgage.
Electricity.
Groceries.
Car payments.
Then I noticed several transfers.
One for $2,500.
Another for $4,000.
Then $1,800.
They had been sent to an account I didn’t recognize.
The descriptions were vague.
Consulting.
Personal transfer.
Account adjustment.
I added them up.
More than $17,000 had disappeared over several months.
I called Megan.
She asked me to send her screenshots.
