On My Wedding Morning, My Mother Called and Told Me to Run—Then I Discovered What My Fiancé Had Planned for Me

I had a father who could send a vehicle.

A mother who could call me.

Lawyers who could protect my interests.

Security officers who could keep dangerous people away.

I had resources that many women in frightening relationships could only dream of having.

And I began wondering what might have happened if I hadn’t.

That afternoon, I made a decision.

With the support of my family, Lily, and Grace, I established the Safe Tomorrow Foundation.

Our goal was simple.

Help people experiencing financial abuse, coercion, and threatening relationships rebuild their lives safely.

We began by funding temporary housing and legal assistance through experienced community organizations.

Later, we added counseling services, financial-literacy programs, and employment support.

I insisted that the foundation work with qualified professionals.

I did not want to build something around my own story alone.

I wanted it to meet the real needs of people whose circumstances were very different from mine.
