“Amelia, you don’t have to confront him today. We can handle the investigation without you putting yourself in front of that man.”
For a long moment, I considered going home with my parents.
Locking the doors.
Leaving everything to the lawyers.
But then I thought about what Derek would be doing at the hotel.
He would probably be telling everyone I had abandoned him.
Perhaps he would announce that Sienna was carrying his child.
He would stand before investors and speak confidently about a business built partly on stolen money.
He would continue pretending to be the victim.
“I want to be there,” I finally said.
My mother frowned.
“Sweetheart—”
“Not alone. Not without the police knowing. And I won’t go anywhere near those men without security.”
I looked at my father.
“But I want Derek to hear the truth from me.”
My father studied my face.
Then he nodded.
