materials.
Some were deliberately artistic.
Others were simple and functional.
Their weight was the entire point.
A paperweight needed enough mass to hold papers in place.
If the mysterious objects are compact, flat-bottomed, and heavy, this possibility becomes more plausible.
But without seeing photographs, there’s no way to say that’s definitely what they are.
Perhaps They Were Doorstops
Another possibility is a small decorative doorstop or doorstop component.
Doorstops have been manufactured in countless shapes and materials.
Some older examples were extremely decorative.
They might resemble animals, figures, geometric forms, or other ornamental designs.
Because a doorstop needs weight, cast metal was commonly useful for the purpose.
A decorative object that feels strangely heavy may therefore have a very practical explanation.
