My thirteen-year-old daughter begged to spend eight days at the beach with her dad and his new girlfriend….

“Colonel Iris Eleanor Mercer,” Admiral Mercer announced.

His voice was sixty decibels of mountain quarry explosive, reverberating through the ruins of the villa like heavy naval artillery:

“The Joint Chiefs of Staff have ratified the operational perimeter.”

“The tactical line is established.”

“And the master vellum deed to Conduit Ten… has returned unto the Mother.”

I returned the salute with my right hand, my posture locked into that ancient, eighty-year mechanical symmetry:

“At ease, David.”

CHAPTER 6: THE DISARMAMENT OF THE EX-HUSBAND

United States Attorney Marcus Cooper stepped forward, opening the four-hundred-page leather litigation brief:

*THUD.*

The heavy volume struck the glass coffee table, pulverizing the remaining china plates:

`CRIMINAL DOCKET: 2026-CR-00914-TREASON`
`THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA & THE MERCER SOVEREIGN ESTATE`
`v.

MARK EDWARD CONWAY, JULIANNA STERLING-VANCE,`
`AND CHIEF JUSTICE ARTHUR M.

STERLING-VANCE.`
`CHARGES: EIGHTY-FOUR COUNTS OF CAPITAL HIGH TREASON UNDER ARTICLE THREE,`
`TRANSNATIONAL KIDNAPPING OF A SOVEREIGN DEFENSE HEIR (18 U.S.C. § 1201),`
`SABOTAGE OF CLASSIFIED CONTINUITY-OF-GOVERNMENT BEDROCK,`
`AND SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY TO USURP SOVEREIGN ADMIRALTY ESCROWS.`
`EXTRAORDINARY CAPIAS BENCH WARRANT: IMMEDIATE ARMED ATTACHMENT.`

Mark stared at the document on the table.

He saw his own name: **MARK EDWARD CONWAY**.

He saw his mistress’s real legal name: **JULIANNA STERLING-VANCE**.

And then… his eyes locked onto the name of her biological father at the bottom of the page:

**CHIEF JUSTICE ARTHUR STERLING-VANCE**.

“Julianna…?”

Mark gasped, his head snapping toward the woman in the black silk gown:

“Your father is the Chief Justice of the United States…?!

You told me you were an independent private equity consultant from Chicago!”

Julianna Sterling-Vance did not look at Mark.

The patrician elegance she had maintained on the beach dissolved into the cold, feral venom of a cornered dynastic predator:

“Shut your mouth, Mark,” Julianna hissed, her eyes fixed on my uniform:

“You were an expendable, narcissistic peasant.

Did you really think a Vance was going to share sixty billion dollars with a disgraced sales director who couldn’t even keep his wife’s trust from slipping through his fingers?”

Julianna turned her slate-gray eyes onto me:

“It doesn’t matter that you brought the Navy, Iris,” Julianna purred:

“My father is currently convening an emergency midnight conference of the Supreme Court in Washington.”

“He has already executed the sovereign modernization mandamus.”

“By sunrise, this entire operation will be classified under executive secrecy, your commissions will be vacated, and Conduit Ten will belong to The Valkyrie Trust forever!”

“Your father isn’t executing a mandamus tonight, Julianna,” I answered softly.

I reached into my grandfather’s tweed jacket pocket.

I did not pull out a legal brief.

I pulled out a small, circular, hand-machined piece of tarnished brass:

The master 1944 United States Navy Admiralty Foundation Die—the physical die used by Arthur Mercer Senior to stamp the red wax on the original wartime sovereign deeds eighty years ago:

*CLINK.*

I laid the heavy brass die flat atop the four-hundred-page litigation brief:

“Did you examine the encrypted cryptographic seed sequence inside the offshore accounts your father used to clear his factoring lines, Julianna?”

I asked.

Julianna’s eyes narrowed, her fingers locking onto the silk of her gown:

“What seed sequence?!”

“The accounts your syndicate used to funnel the mezzanine debt through Liechtenstein,” I revealed, every syllable falling like an eighty-ton iron dead-weight onto her coffin:

“You thought your family was brilliant.”

“You thought you were siphoning forty percent of my family’s sovereign equity into Vaduz.”

I tapped the brass die:

“Your father wasn’t siphoning my family’s money, Julianna.”

“Your father was using an automated sub-fiduciary account that my grandfather, Arthur Mercer Senior, created in nineteen-eighty-four.”
