For one second, I didn’t see a twenty-seven-year-old bride.Bride accessories
I saw a six-year-old girl hiding under a folding table with a one-eared rabbit, watching everybody in the room like a little hawk.
Mark was beside her in his tuxedo, already crying. He’s always been a crier. He cried at her kindergarten graduation. He cried when she lost her first tooth.
They walked right past me. I was standing at the end of the very last row, maybe two feet away.
Hannah didn’t look at me. She was looking straight ahead, at Owen, at the altar, at everything waiting for her.
I watched them walk down the aisle.
Past the tenth row. The ninth. The eighth.
And then, halfway down the aisle, Hannah stopped walking.
Mark took one more step before he realized she wasn’t moving. He stopped too and looked
down at her, confused.
