My Husband Made Me Sleep in the Car at 34 Weeks Pregnant—Then His Mother Knocked on My Window at 2 A.M.

“I brought you something.”

Ryan glanced at me, then began tearing off the paper.

Inside was a folding camping cot.

The same inexpensive kind people carried on fishing trips or stored in emergency shelters.

The second Ryan saw it, his smile disappeared.

He dropped it onto the floor.

“Mom…”

Linda stepped into the apartment.

“It reclines,” she said calmly. “Not as well as Claire’s car seats, but I’m sure you’ll get used to it.”

Ryan’s face turned red.

“What the hell?”

“Watch your language.”

“You can’t do this!”

Linda tilted her head.

“Do what, exactly?”

“Come into my home in the middle of the night and tell me where to sleep.”

For the first time since she arrived, Linda raised her voice.

“Your home?”

She pointed toward me.

“Your pregnant wife has been sleeping in a parking lot for ten nights, and you are upset because I entered your apartment?”
