*THUD. THUD.*
Two FBI HRT operators closed the gap in half a second, slamming Caldwell face-down onto the concrete wharf, his cheek driven hard into the asphalt, his arms twisted brutally behind his back as high-tensile titanium transport irons clamped around his wrists with a sharp, concussive *CLICK-CLACK*.
Arthur Vance, Diego Vance, and Paula Sterling were thrown to the ground beside him, their wrists and ankles locked in heavy steel chains.
Diego was screaming—wild, unhinged, snot-smeared shrieks of pure terror:
“LAURA! LAURA, SAVE ME! TELL THEM I’M YOUR HUSBAND! TELL THEM I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE SUBMARINES!”
I walked across the concrete wharf with a slow, measured, and rhythmic cadence:
*Click.*
*Click.*
*Click.*
The rubber soles of my boots struck the asphalt with the crushing authority of a monarch walking through the ruins of an invaded empire.
I stopped two feet from where Arthur Caldwell and Diego Vance lay pinned beneath the federal operators’ boots.
Deputy Attorney General Sarah Albright stepped through the tactical perimeter, holding an unsealed, red-embossed federal capias warrant bearing the raised golden seal of the **President of the United States** and the **United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC)**:
“Arthur Caldwell. Arthur Vance. Diego Vance. Paula Sterling.”
Albright read the capital charges with the clinical precision of an executioner:
* **Twelve counts of High Treason against the United States under Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 2381.**
* **Sixteen counts of Seditious Sabotage of Sovereign Strategic Nuclear Defense Infrastructure under Title 18, Section 2153.**
* **One count of Attempted Premeditated Capital Murder of an Unborn Sovereign Heir under Title 18, Section 1841.**
* **Twelve counts of Interstate Administration of Chemical Weapon Agents under Title 18, Section 175.**
* **And one hundred and twelve counts of Transnational Corporate Racketeering, Money Laundering, and Fiduciary Fraud under the RICO Act.**
“Your bail is permanently denied under presidential emergency protocol.”
“Your military titles, your offshore trusts in Zurich, your corporate assets, and the house on Elm Street have been permanently seized under sovereign federal asset forfeiture.”
“Federal marshals. Remove the traitors from this port.”
As the tactical operators dragged Arthur Caldwell and Diego Vance toward the waiting armored transport vehicles, Diego turned his bruised, tear-streaked face back through the flashing crimson emergency lights, crying out toward me in raw, suffocating agony:
“LAURA! PLEASE! FORGIVE ME! I AM THE FATHER OF YOUR BABY!”
I looked down at the ruined parasite who had tried to poison my body.
I placed my hand gently over my stomach, feeling my child kick with triumphant, unbroken strength.
“You are nothing to this child, Diego,” I said softly.
“You were only the dust beneath my grandfather’s feet.”
The heavy steel doors of the federal transport van slammed shut with an echoing, concussive, and sovereign *THUD*.
Berth Four was finally, completely silent.

Seventy-two hours later.
Inside the subterranean, blast-hardened maximum-security interrogation suite of the **United States Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX Florence) in Colorado**, the air was sterile, cold, and thick with the chemical smell of industrial floor disinfectant and damp concrete.
Sitting at a bolted stainless-steel table in Cell 4-Bravo, wearing bright orange federal inmate jumpsuits with heavy high-tensile steel transport chains linking their wrists and waists to an iron ring in the floor, were **Arthur Caldwell** and **Diego Vance**.
They looked like hollow, shattered ghosts of the glamorous, arrogant men who had strutted through corporate offices and country clubs three mornings earlier.
Arthur Caldwell had lost fifteen pounds; his bespoke cashmere coats and imported cigars had been replaced by a rough cotton prison smock and paper institutional slippers; his styled silver hair was unwashed, matted with cold sweat; his hands trembled continuously against the metal table, his fingernails bitten down to the quick.
Diego sat beside him, his handsome face gaunt, gray, lined with permanent creases of humiliation and terror, weeping silently into a paper cup of cold tap water.
The heavy pneumatic steel door slid open on industrial rollers: *CLANK-HISS.*
Stepping into the interrogation room, wearing an elegant, custom-tailored dark-navy maternity suit, her hair styled in soft waves, her posture radiating the absolute, unshakeable majesty of a sovereign matriarch, was **me**.
Beside me walked **Deputy Attorney General Sarah Albright** and **Special Agent Marcus Vance**.
We did not sit down.
Deputy Attorney General Albright walked to the table, threw a thick, red-bordered litigation folder flat onto the stainless steel with a concussive *THUD*, and slid three separate documents in front of Diego’s shackled hands.
Diego flinched violently, looking down at the paperwork with bloodshot, hyperventilating eyes:
“Laura…?” Diego whimpered, his voice cracking in a high, ruined rasp that sounded like dry leaves scraping across concrete. “Laura, baby… thank God you’re here! Did our corporate attorneys file the emergency habeas corpus petition? Tell them I was confused by Arthur’s money! We were married for eight years! We have family equity in Coral Gables!”
“You have zero dollars, Mr. Vance,” Deputy Attorney General Sarah Albright said, her voice dropping into a register of icy, clinical cruelty that made the room feel like an icebox.
Albright tapped the first document:
“The Elm Street residence was transferred solely to Laura Mendoza seventy-two hours ago.”
“The corporate bank accounts of *Vance-Sterling Logistics LLC* have been completely liquidated under federal receivership.”
“Paula’s luxury sports cars, your private boat slips, your country club bonds, and every dollar in your family trusts in Zurich have been attached to satisfy the one-point-four-billion-dollar defense restitution order.”
“And the four-month pregnancy you mocked as an impossible fraud?”
Albright slid a high-resolution 3D medical ultrasound scan across the metal table:
The photograph showed a fully formed, thriving baby girl resting comfortably in my womb, her tiny hand lifted near her face, her heart beating strong and healthy at one hundred and fifty-four beats per minute.
Diego’s breath locked in his throat with a sharp, dry rattle.
He stared at the photograph of his unborn daughter.
