I’d handled situations where people’s careers and futures were at stake.
But none of those experiences had prepared me to look across a courtroom and see my own parents waiting for me to fail.
I took one slow breath.
“Your Honor, I’d like to address the allegations in three areas. First, the factual claims about access to my grandmother. Second, the evidence concerning her mental capacity and independent decision-making.
Third, the statements about my own background and alleged manipulation.”
Judge Morrison nodded.
“Proceed.”
I began with the facility records.
I explained how the facility managed building access.
I presented the properly authenticated management documentation and directed the court to the
relevant dates.
“The petitioners allege that I changed the locks to prevent them from visiting my grandmother,” I said. “These records establish that management changed the locks as part of a facility security update. I did not authorize, request, or control that change.”
