“You didn’t what?”
“Ididn’t divorce you because you made a mistake. I filed because you made a choice. You chose to leave our marriage for another woman. You chose to move out. You chose to spend four months building a new life without me.”
I paused.
“And now you’ve chosen to return because your new life didn’t work out.”
Gary shook his head.
“That’s not fair. I thought you loved me.”
“I did love you. For twenty-two years.”
My voice remained calm.
“But loving you doesn’t mean I have to accept being your
backup plan.”
He glanced at Linda.
“Are you seriously encouraging her to do this?”
Linda folded her arms.
“Gary, I encouraged Debbie to stop crying over a man who thought he could trade her in and then come back when the replacement didn’t work out.”
“That’s none of your business!”
