“What is this?”
“Your welcome-home package.”
He opened the box.
Inside were several neatly folded items: his old slippers, his favorite coffee mug, a collection of golf magazines, and a small envelope.
He smiled faintly.
“Well, at least someone around here has some sense.”
Then he opened the envelope.
His smile disappeared.
Inside was a printed document.
It was a copy of
the divorce paperwork I had filed two weeks earlier, along with a letter from my attorney.
Gary looked up sharply.
“You filed for divorce?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“Two weeks ago.”
“But we haven’t even discussed reconciliation!”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Gary, you announced that you were moving back in without discussing it with me. I thought we were both being spontaneous.”
Linda nearly choked trying to suppress her laughter.
Gary’s face reddened.
“You can’t just divorce me because I made a mistake!”
“I didn’t.”
He looked confused.
