He Vanished in Yellowstone in 1974. Yesterday, His Camera Returned With THIS Footage…

No one saw him at Tower Fall, though the conditions would have made the photography exceptional.

The 132 ft plume of water catching the morning sun at an angle that turned its mist into suspended fire.

The hexagonal bassalt columns rising around it like the ruins of something ancient. No photograph from that location was ever definitively attributed to him.

It is possible he was there and shot nothing that morning, saving his frames for something else.

It is equally possible he never reached Towerfall at all. The trail was empty, the light was perfect, and somewhere between the parking area at Tower Junction and the basalt columns above the fall on a Tuesday morning in the second year of the Ford administration in the oldest national park in the world.

Daniel Aldrich Voss turned a corner in the lodgepole forest and stepped out of the known world entirely.

The missing person report was filed at 8:43 in the evening on August 14th, 1974 at the Canyon Village Ranger Station.
