At dinner, my brother sneered, ‘still single, huh? must be lonely being a failure.’ my parents chuckled – so i smiled and said, ‘funny coming from a guy whose rent i’ve paid for 3 years. not anymore, by the way.’

The whole table went silent.

That should have been the end of it.

Instead, my family turned my boundary into a campaign.

Mom called me selfish. Relatives reached out with speeches about forgiveness. Connor sent me an $800 Venmo request with one word in the memo: “please.”

I ignored it.

Then he crossed a line I couldn’t explain away.

My landlord called one Friday afternoon. Connor had shown up at my apartment claiming I had given him permission to go inside. He said he’d lost his key and needed to pick up some things.

My landlord’s maintenance guy stopped him.

When I confronted Connor, he didn’t apologize.

“Don’t be dramatic,” he said.

I blocked him everywhere.

Weeks later, a colleague sent me a screenshot of Connor’s LinkedIn profile.

He had listed himself as a software consultant. Under his experience were projects I recognized immediately.

Mine.
