I gave him both.
He wrote the plate down.
He made one phone call, right there, to a man he called “Dennis at the county.”
He listened.
He hung up.
“The gray sedan is registered to a private investigation firm in Dublin. Hollis & Grey.”
“Your husband hired them.”
“To watch me.”
“To catch you. Parole violation. Contact with a co-defendant, association with a known felon, anything. One photograph and you’re back inside before the hearing.”
“But here’s the thing about private investigators, Rachel.”
“They photograph everything.”
“Including your sister.”
“Including the envelope.”
I didn’t understand.
Then I did.
“She threatened me. In front of his camera.”
“She threatened a witness, in the yard of a property with a disputed mortgage, with cash, nineteen days after your release, while a man her own husband was paying photographed it from across the street.”
“Mr. Hollis is going to have a very interesting conversation with me tomorrow about who owns those photographs.”
