The Smoke Detector Above My Bookshelf Finally Told Them What Happened – America Focus

Douglas sat near the clock, four minutes fast.

Elena placed

the photograph of the damaged door beside her notebook.

“Aaron, start at three o’clock.”

“I heard Madison moving around.”

“What did you do?”

“I went to check on her.”

“Why?”

“She was upset.”

Elena looked at the photograph.

“Did you enter her bedroom?”

“I was only trying to help.”

“Then what happened?”

Aaron glanced at Douglas.

Douglas smoothed his pajama sleeve.

Elena noticed.

“Look at me, Aaron.”

He did.

“Did Madison leave her bedroom?”

“She came out.”

“How?”

Aaron’s fingers moved toward the salt shaker.

“She attacked herself.”

The words landed between the four of us.

Elena picked up the photograph of the fallen lamp.

“With what?”

Aaron looked down.

“I do not know.”

Elena turned to another photograph.

“You said she caused the lamp to fall.”

“Yes.”

“Then why is the lamp shown beside the bed?”

Aaron did not answer.

Douglas leaned forward.

“She has been under pressure.”

Elena

looked at him.

“I asked Aaron.”

Douglas sat back.

Elena pointed to the damaged door.

“You said Madison caused this?”
