“Mind your own business, lady,” Tom snapped, stepping closer to intimidate her. “You have no idea who you’re talking to. This is my zone, and what I say goes. Get back in the cab before I arrest you for interfering with a police investigation.”

“An investigation?” Sarah asked, her voice calm but ice-cold. “Extorting a hardworking citizen isn’t an investigation, Sergeant. It’s a felony. I’ll ask you one more time: return his documents and let him leave.”
