Nothing in their
daily lives seemed to foreshadow the change in behavior that would soon worry the young woman.
A sudden change: Dorato refuses to eat
One day, Camilla noticed something unusual. At mealtimes, Dorato showed no interest in his food.
Usually attentive to its reactions, she watched the snake turn its head away and remain motionless in the darkest corner of the room.
At first, she did not give in to worry. She knew that some large reptiles could go through relatively long periods of fasting.
She therefore considered several possible explanations, including a phase related to molting or a seasonal change.
Despite this, the refusal to eat persisted. Every day, Camilla watched Dorato hoping to see him return to his usual behavior.
But the lack of appetite was soon no longer the only unusual element.
A strange visit in the middle of the night
One night, around three in the morning,
Camilla was suddenly awakened by a strange pressure in her legs, under the covers.
Still half asleep, she turned on her nightlight to understand what was happening.
To her great surprise, she discovered Dorato in her bed.
The enormous snake had managed to get through the door of her room and slither under the covers. It had settled down next to her, its long body stretched out on the mattress and its scaly head placed near the pillow.
Camilla remained motionless for a moment, surprised by this unexpected visit. Then she smiled.
She imagined that her companion was simply seeking the warmth of her body to escape the night’s chill.
After so many years together, this interpretation seemed natural to her. She didn’t immediately see this episode as a sign of danger.
When the python starts sleeping beside him
What could have remained an isolated incident gradually became a habit.
Every night, when Camilla went to bed, Dorato would eventually appear in her room. The reptile would lie down beside her, occupying a large part of the mattress with its massive body.
The young woman grew accustomed to its nocturnal presence. She even found it touching that the snake seemed to seek her company after all these years of living together.
However, Dorato’s behavior continued to evolve.
Instead of simply lying near her, it began to form wide rings around her limbs.
One morning, Camilla woke up to find the python’s body wrapped around her legs and stomach. Another time, she felt its tail against her chest.
She interpreted these gestures as an exceptional display of affection.
In her mind, the relationship she had patiently built with Dorato had reached a rare degree of trust between a human being and a wild animal.
