The DNA test that shook the Harper family

I held his gaze.

“He said he was sorry.”

Vivian’s mouth tightened.

” For what ? “

“For believing your lies.”

The room exploded.

“You ungrateful wretch…”

Vivian lunged towards me.

Mr. Bennett stood up immediately.

“Mrs. Harper.”

She stopped.

I had never seen Vivian scared before.

Not when Dad went on business trips.

Not when I moved.

Not when I confronted her at seventeen.

But now she looked terrified.

Because she knew something.

Something I didn’t know.

Mr. Bennett slowly returned to his chair.

“There is one last document.”

He placed a second envelope on the table.

“This was delivered to my office three weeks before William’s death.”

He looked at me.

“It was addressed to Candace.”

My fingers grew cold.

“Why didn’t you give it to me?”

“Because your father asked me not to hand it over until the DNA results are

verified.”

I stared at the envelope.

My name was written on the front.

CANDACE HARPER

Dad’s handwriting.

I reached out my hand towards her.

But before I could touch her, Vivian said:

“Don’t do that.”

Everyone looked at her.

She seemed to realize what she had done.

Alyssa turned slowly towards her.

” For what ? “

Vivian said nothing.

Alyssa’s voice became calmer.
