Ten dollars.Twenty dollars.

Even the police officer who had arrested the boy placed money beside the judge’s contribution.

The boy couldn’t stop crying.

“I didn’t know people would care,” he whispered. The judge looked at him.

What’s your name?”

Bread

“Adam, sir.”

“Adam, I want you to remember this day.”

“I will, Your Honor.”

“Not because you stole bread. Remember it because this was the day you learned that one mistake does not have to define your entire life.”

Adam nodded.

Years passed.

Adam worked hard, stayed in school, and eventually went to university.

He became a lawyer.

But he never forgot the courtroom where his life had changed.

Years later, an old man was brought before him.The man had been arrested for stealing food.

Adam looked at the case file.

Then he looked at the frightened man standing before him.

For a moment, he remembered himself at fifteen years old.

He remembered the bread.

He remembered his sick mother.

And most of all, he remembered the judge who had given him a second chance.

Adam smiled.
