PASTOR D!ED IN A MOTEL WITH… see more

That responsibility can make allegations involving a pastor especially shocking.

But pastors are also human beings.

They experience stress, disappointment, temptation, loneliness, family problems, and personal struggles like everyone else.

Recognizing their humanity does not excuse misconduct if misconduct occurred. It simply reminds us that a person’s occupation does not tell us everything about their private life.

A title such as “pastor” tells us about someone’s role.

It does not automatically tell us what happened in a motel room.

That requires evidence.

## The Difference Between Suspicion and Fact

One of the biggest problems with sensational stories is that readers can quickly turn an unanswered question into an assumption.

Suppose a headline says a pastor died in a motel “with” someone.

That wording does not necessarily establish wrongdoing.

Being in the same location as another person does not prove an affair, criminal activity, or immoral behavior.

Even if authorities were investigating unusual circumstances, an investigation itself would not automatically establish guilt.
