Calder’s mouth tightened.

“Mrs. Ellison has no basis to imply fraud.”

“I have not implied anything,” I said.

“I have stated that I did not sign the agreement.”

Judge Porter glanced at him.

“Mr. Calder, sit down.”

He did.

The word fraud remained suspended over the room, even though no one had spoken it again.

I turned to the next page.

“The financial disclosure is also inaccurate.”

Andrew finally looked directly at me.

“What do you mean?”

I heard the pain in his voice before I saw it.

Not pain for me.

Pain for the threat to the version of his life he had trusted.

“The disclosure states that I had no financial interest in Ellison Precision Systems and made no contribution to its liabilities or assets during the marriage.”
“That is what the agreement says,” Calder replied.

“It is not what happened.”

Ruth gave a short, disbelieving laugh.
