But Derek was still talking.

“The private clinic has prepared consent papers. Once she signs, they’ll take care of the rest.”

Sienna looked uneasy.

“What if she changes her mind?”

Derek’s expression hardened.

“Then she won’t be given the opportunity.”

I felt the blood drain from my face.

One of the three men standing behind Derek shifted impatiently.

“Are we doing this or not?”

Derek glanced at his watch.

“Get the door open. We need this finished before noon.”

The recording showed a man approaching my apartment lock with a metal tool.

Seconds later, there was a sharp crash.

Another followed.

Then the door gave way.

I covered my mouth.

Derek stood there watching while strangers forced their way into the home where I had spent three years believing I was building a future with him.

And then he said something I would never forget.

“Once she’s signed everything, she’s no longer my problem.”
