Oliver didn’t answer him.
Instead, he approached me.
Then he extended his hand respectfully.
“Ms. Harrington, the board representatives are ready whenever you are.”
Derek blinked.
“What?”
Oliver turned toward the guests.
“For anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting her, allow me to introduce Amelia Carter Harrington, chair of the investment committee of Harrington Equity Partners.”
Silence.
Complete silence.
Derek stared at Oliver.
Then at me.
Then back at Oliver.
“That can’t be right.”
His voice sounded thin.
“Amelia Carter works at a small communications agency.”
“I do,” I said.
It was the first time I had spoken since entering.
“But that isn’t my only responsibility.”
Derek shook his head.
“No. This is ridiculous.”
I removed my coat.
The inexpensive wedding dress was visible to everyone.
Sienna gave a sharp laugh.
“Look at her! Does that look like a wealthy executive to you?”
I glanced down at the dress.
