On My Wedding Morning, My Mother Called and Told Me to Run—Then I Discovered What My Fiancé Had Planned for Me

“Why would Victor want me to sign anything? Derek thinks I barely have enough money to pay rent.”

“Because Derek needed someone else attached to the debt.”

He pointed to another document.

“Those papers would have falsely presented you as someone who had accepted responsibility for several financial obligations. They also included guarantees and acknowledgments that could be used to threaten you.”

My stomach tightened.

“So he wanted to make me the person everyone blamed.”

“Exactly. Whether those documents would hold up legally is another matter. But he intended to use them to buy himself time, shift attention away from his own conduct, and keep you frightened enough not to challenge him.”

I sat silently.

Then I looked at the medical documents my father had placed in a separate folder.

“What about Sienna’s brother?”

“We’ve informed the appropriate authorities about the threat. Derek appears to have obtained information he had no right to access.”
