My son told me I needed to stop wasting money.
So I stopped financing the expensive lifestyle he couldn’t afford.
And in doing so, I gave him something far more valuable than another mortgage payment or luxury car.
The opportunity to become responsible for his own future.
As for me, I still wear my sapphire necklace.
Sometimes to dinner.

And occasionally, for no special reason at all.
Because after a lifetime of taking care of everyone else, I’ve finally learned something important.
I can love my family without paying for every choice they make.
