Judge Alvarez opened the folder and read for several minutes. The only sound was a clock somewhere behind her.
“These evaluations are thorough,” she said at last. “And unambiguous.”
“Thank you, Your Honor. I’d also like to submit three other things.” Howard rose and handed up the documents one by one. “The first is the true trust instrument, with the original notary record. The second is the forged copy Mrs. Sutter’s daughter-in-law emailed her two days ago, with an affidavit from a forensic document
examiner. The third is a recording.”
Kristen’s lawyer half rose. “Objection, Your Honor. We haven’t seen—”
“You will,” Judge Alvarez said. “Sit down.”
Howard pressed a button. A tinny speaker filled the room with Kristen’s voice from the phone call at my gate, bright and cold.
“Poor Trevor. Running to Mommy after playing rich man for five years.”
“You really should have told Trevor what his father left him.”
