My Husband M0cked Me in Front of His Friends for Wearing Protective Underwear After Childbirt

Who handled most childcare?

Me.

Did I have family nearby?

My mother lived forty minutes away.

Rachel listened.

Then said:

“You don’t have to decide today whether you want a divorce.”

“I think I do.”

“That’s fine.”

“But make decisions because they’re right, not because you’re angry after one event.”

I appreciated that.

So I told her the event wasn’t one event.

I told her everything.

The jokes.

The comments about intimacy.

The jokes about my body.

The nights alone.

The way he minimized therapy.

How often he left childcare to me.

The guest-room nights.

The browser searches.

By the end, Rachel said:

“Okay.”

“This didn’t start last night.”

“No.”

“It just became visible last night.”

Exactly.

Carter spent Sunday apologizing.

At first.

Flowers appeared around noon.

Then lunch.

Then a text from downstairs:

Please talk to me.

I finally did after the babies went down for their afternoon nap.

Carter sat across from me at the kitchen table.

He looked terrible.

“I’m sorry.”

“I know.”

“I deleted the stupid picture.”

My stomach tightened.

“What picture?”

His eyes widened.

Another silence.

“Carter.”

He rubbed his forehead.

“I took a photo of the package.”

I felt sick.

“Did you send it?”

“To the group chat.”

I closed my eyes.

“When?”

“Before you came downstairs.”

The humiliation became new all over again.

He reached for my hand.

I pulled away.

“I deleted it.”

“That doesn’t delete it from their phones.”

“No one saved it.”

“You don’t know that.”

“They wouldn’t.”

“You thought they’d laugh last night too.”

That landed.

He looked down.

“I called everyone.”

“Nolan basically told me to go to hell.”

“Good.”

“Elena.”

“What?”

“I said I’m sorry.”

“And what do you think happens after that?”

He stared.

I continued.

“You keep treating apologies like erasers.”

“You say something cruel.”

“I get upset.”

“You tell me it was a joke.”

“Eventually you apologize.”

“Then a month later you do it again.”

“I’m not going to do it again.”

“You said that after the comment about sex.”

His face changed.

“You remember that?”

“Of course I remember.”

“I was joking.”

I laughed.

Even he heard it.

The exact problem.

He rubbed his face.

“Okay.”

“I hear it.”

“Do you?”

“Yes.”

For the first time, his voice sounded smaller.

“I think I do.”

Rachel helped me understand my options.

I opened an account in my own name with money that was legally mine.
