My husband collapsed at our wedding reception, and I was told he had di3d of a heart att3ck. Four days later, I attended his funeral.

Karl’s cousin Daniel arrived.

But his parents never appeared.

Their absence confused and hurt me.
Regardless of their disagreements, I’d expected them to attend their son’s funeral.

After the service, I found Daniel standing alone near the parking lot.

“Daniel, may I ask you something?”

He nodded uneasily.

“Of course.”

“Why didn’t Karl’s parents come?”

He looked away.

“They’re difficult people.”

I frowned.

“Difficult? Their son just died.”

Daniel rubbed the back of his neck.

“They never forgave Karl for the decision he made.”

“What decision?”

His expression changed.

“You really don’t know?”

“No. Karl never told me.”

Daniel’s phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen and immediately stepped backward.

“I’m sorry, Megan. I have to go.”

“Wait. What did he do?”

But Daniel was already walking away.

I stood there, more confused than ever.

That evening, I returned to the home Karl and I had shared.
