“What?”
He looked at the bracelet.
“She said, if my mother truly did not know about me… if she was lied to… then I want to meet her for the first time on the day she has the same bracelet too. As a sign that we both belong to the same family.”
I sat down.
At that moment, it felt as if my heart was both dying and starting to beat again.
“Where is she now?” I asked.
Martin silently looked toward the window.
I turned around.
There was a car parked in front of our house.
Under the light stood a young woman, her hands in the pockets of her coat, looking at our front door with frightened but hopeful eyes.
Martin whispered:
“She said she would come only if you wanted to open the door.”
I slowly stood up.
Tears were already running down my face, but I no longer wiped them away.
