My Fiancée Said She’d “Always Dreamed of Two Little Sisters.” Then I Came Home Early and Heard Her Tell My Orphaned 10-Year-Old Twins to Beg Strangers to Adopt Them

My sisters sat at the head table beside me in their new dresses, pale but steady, each of them holding half of our mother’s locket.

Margaret sat three tables back, a slim folder resting on her lap.

When the dinner plates were cleared, Jenna rose, radiant in white, and took the microphone from its stand.

The Cartier bracelet caught the light as she lifted her hand.

“Thank you all so much for coming!” she beamed. “Tonight, we’re celebrating love, family, and—”

I stood and tapped her shoulder.

“Actually, babe,” I said gently. “I’ll take it from here.”

A few people chuckled, expecting a groom’s sweet speech.

I took the microphone.

Then I reached into my jacket and raised a small black remote.

“Before we celebrate family,” I said, “I think everyone should hear how my fiancée talks about mine.”

I pressed the button.

Every screen in that ballroom lit up at once.
