MY FATHER CALLED ME A FAILURE IN COURT TO STEAL MY $4.7 MILLION INHERITANCE. THEN THE JUDGE DISCOVERED I WAS A MILITARY LAWYER.

Whitman stood for his response.

But before he could speak, Judge Morrison looked at the third folder on my table.

“Ms. Parker, your exhibit list also references a handwritten letter from your grandmother.”

I felt my chest tighten.

“Yes, Your Honor.”

“Is that the letter you received through Mr. Bennett?”

“Yes.”

The judge looked toward the attorney.

“Mr. Bennett, you confirmed that Mrs. Parker asked you to deliver a sealed letter to her granddaughter?”

“That is correct.”

Judge Morrison returned his attention to me.

“Ms. Parker, you may address its relevance.”

I looked down at the folder.

For the first time that morning, my hands began to shake.

Because the next piece of evidence wasn’t just about winning.

It was Nana’s final voice.

And my parents were about to hear what she had left behind.

PART 5: THE LETTER MY GRANDMOTHER LEFT BEHIND

I removed Nana’s letter from the protective sleeve.
