MY FATHER CALLED ME A FAILURE IN COURT TO STEAL MY $4.7 MILLION INHERITANCE. THEN THE JUDGE DISCOVERED I WAS A MILITARY LAWYER.

My phone was sitting beside the summons.

For one brief moment, I considered calling my father and offering some kind of compromise.

Not because I believed he was entitled to the money.

Because I was exhausted.

I knew what this fight would cost emotionally.

I knew my mother would cry.

I knew relatives might take sides.

I knew every family gathering would become another place where I was accused of betrayal.

Then I looked at Nana’s handwriting.

And I realized that surrendering the estate simply to make my parents stop attacking me would mean

allowing them to override her final decision.

I couldn’t do that.

Not to her.

Not anymore.

I opened my laptop.

And I started preparing.

I contacted Mr. Bennett and informed him about the lawsuit.

He wasn’t surprised.

He told me he had met with Nana privately when preparing the will.

He explained that she had described her family relationships and her intentions in detail.
