He muttered something and walked off.
I looked at Ollie, this nervous kid who’d been shaking at my door an hour ago, and I saw exactly where he’d learned to stand like that.
“Logan would be so proud of you,” I whispered.
Ollie’s phone buzzed in his hand.

“Hailey,” he breathed. “It’s time. The thing. It’s happening now.”
Chapter 4: At Exactly the Right Moment
Ollie grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the middle of the dance floor, right as the fast song faded out.
“Stand here,” he said. “Right here. Don’t move.”
“Ollie, what is going on—”
The music stopped.
The DJ’s voice came over the speakers.
“Ladies and gentlemen of Crestline High, we’ve got a special request tonight. This one’s been planned for a long time, by somebody who couldn’t be here.”
The lights dropped low.
And the first notes of the song started — our song, the slow one Logan and I had claimed as ours in tenth grade, the one I’d told exactly one person I wanted for my prom dance.
