CHAPTER 6: THE BREACH IN THE LIBRARY
Chloe let out an un-human, glass-shattering shriek from the bottom of her lungs:
*“NOOOOOOOOOOO!”*
The thirty-one-year-old socialite did not look like high society now.
She lunged across the mahogany partners’ desk, her manicured fingers hooked into claws aimed directly at the titanium transponder key:
“IT’S MINE! MY GRANDFATHER HAS THE SUPREME COURT ORDER! WE OWN THE CONDUIT! I AM THE FUTURE OF THIS ESTATE!”
*KABOOOOM.*
The four-inch-thick steel vault door behind the grandfather clock did not slide open on its automated tracks.
It was cleaved off its structural bronze rollers by an eighty-pound linear hydraulic tactical breaching ram deployed by twelve operators from the **United States Marshals Service Special Operations Group (SOG)** staged in the subterranean wine cellar:
*CRASH-ROAR-SHATTER.*
A concussive shockwave of sub-zero subterranean air, pulverized brick dust, and tactical propellant blew through the library, blowing the heavy velvet draperies off their brass rods and throwing Chloe flat onto her back across the Persian carpet:
*SCREAMS-PANTING-TERROR.*
Through the billowing gray plumes of pulverized masonry…
Illuminating the library in forty thousand lumens of blinding, clinical tactical halogen…
Rushed the twelve SOG operators.
They wore sterile dark-charcoal Nomex drysuits, Level IV boron-carbide plate carriers, and Ops-Core ballistic helmets fitted with panoramic night-vision brackets. Across their chests hung suppressed SIG Sauer MCX Rattlers, their weapon-mounted PEQ-15 infrared lasers cutting through the library dust in twelve razor-sharp needles of incandescent crimson light:
“FEDERAL INQUEST! REMAIN STATIONARY! HANDS SPREAD FLAT ON THE FLOORBOARDS! DO NOT REACH FOR POCKETS OR PURSES!”
Chloe scrambled backward against the base of the mahogany bookcases, her ivory cashmere trousers caked in gray mortar dust, her hands clawing at her face, weeping with hysterical, petrified terror:
*“DON’T SHOOT! I AM CHLOE STERLING! MY GRANDFATHER IS CHIEF JUSTICE ARTHUR STERLING-VANCE! YOU HAVE NO JURISDICTION IN THIS HOUSE!”*
“Stand down, Miss Sterling,” a voice commanded from the breach.
Walking through the pulverized brick…
Wearing an unbuttoned dark-navy wool overcoat over an un-ironed civilian three-piece suit…
Holding an unsealed, four-hundred-page federal grand jury indictment stamped with the deep red wax seal of the **UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA**…
Was **United States Attorney Marcus Cooper**, Chief Federal Prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia:
`CRIMINAL DOCKET: 2026-CR-00914-TREASON`
`THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA & THE MERCER-VANCE SOVEREIGN ESTATE`
`v. CHIEF JUSTICE ARTHUR M. STERLING-VANCE,`
`CHLOE ELIZABETH STERLING, AND THE VALKYRIE LIQUIDITY TRUST.`
`CHARGES: EIGHTY-FOUR COUNTS OF CAPITAL HIGH TREASON UNDER ARTICLE THREE,`
`PREMEDITATED ATTEMPTED MASS MURDER BY AIRCRAFT SABOTAGE (18 U.S.C. § 32),`
`SABOTAGE OF CLASSIFIED STRATEGIC NUCLEAR DEFENSE CONDUITS,`
`AND SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY TO USURP SOVEREIGN ADMIRALTY ESCROWS.`
`EXTRAORDINARY CAPIAS BENCH WARRANT: IMMEDIATE ARMED ATTACHMENT.`
Marcus Cooper stopped two paces from where Chloe lay trembling against the shelves.
He did not offer a hand.
He looked down at the socialite with forty years of federal prosecution ice:
“Miss Sterling,” Cooper said, his voice dropping forty decibels of pure, un-forgiving Maine iron:
“Your contract pilots did not depressurize the Global Seven Thousand Five Hundred over the Canadian Rockies.”
“At zero-eight-forty-eight this morning, two F-Fifteen-Eagles from the Oregon Air National Guard forced your aircraft down at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.”
“Both pilots are currently in federal holding cells at the military brig at Fort Lewis.”
“They have surrendered their encrypted satellite transceivers.”
“They have surrendered the signed flight manifests bearing your grandfather’s private chancery seal.”
“And they have provided sworn video depositions detailing the three hundred thousand dollars in Swiss bearer bonds you wired to their accounts in Vaduz forty-eight hours ago.”
