I Married My High School Sweetheart at 70 Then His Lawyer Came to My Trailer With a Letter – TorLib

Their families moved in different directions. Opportunities appeared. Responsibilities followed.

Eventually, Margaret married someone else.

Thomas did too.

They each built separate lives.

There were children, jobs, homes, birthdays, difficult years and happy ones.

Time passed quietly.

Margaret eventually became a widow.

Thomas lost his wife as well.

And somehow, more than fifty years disappeared.

Neither of them expected to meet again.

The Reunion Nobody Expected
Then, one ordinary afternoon, Margaret attended a church bake sale.

She was standing near a table of homemade pies when she heard a familiar voice behind her.

“Margaret?”

She turned.

For a moment, she didn’t recognize the man standing there.

Then she looked into his eyes.

Thomas.

Older, of course.

His hair had turned gray. His face carried the marks of decades of living.

But his smile was the same.

“You still wear your hair the same,” he said.

Margaret laughed.

“And you still talk too smoothly.”

They spent the afternoon talking.

Then they met again.

And again.

Soon, their conversations became phone calls.

The phone calls became dinners.

And the dinners became long evenings remembering the life they had once imagined together.

It felt strange.

It also felt completely natural.

For the first time in decades, Margaret felt like she had been given something she thought was gone forever.

A second chance.

The Proposal
Three months later, Thomas asked Margaret to marry him.

She was stunned.

She asked him if he was serious.
