I married a lonely elderly woman for her money and a roof over my head. But after her funeral, her attorney gave me a box and said, “She told me this is what you truly wanted.”…007

He did not look at Clara.

He did not look at Donald.

He stopped two feet from where I sat clutching the burnt flight recorder.

The four-star Admiral brought his heels together with a sharp, military snap—*SNAP*—and raised his right hand to the visor of his service cap in an immaculate, trembling salute:

“Good afternoon, Julian.”

“The United States Navy honors the surviving son of Lieutenant Commander Daniel Vance.”

CHAPTER 5: THE RECKONING IN CHAINS

Clara Sterling let out an un-human, glass-shattering shriek from the floorboards:

*“NOOOOOOOOOOO!”*

She scrambled to her knees, her designer coat soaked in the spilled coffee and broken glass, her manicured fingers clawing at the Admiral’s trousers:

“ADMIRAL MERCER! YOU CANNOT DO THIS! EVELYN EXCLUDED HIM FROM THE WILL! I AM HER LAWFUL HEIR! THE DEED IS FILED!”

Admiral Mercer did not look down.

He reached into his bridge coat, pulled out an unsealed, blue vellum document stamped with the raised gold seal of the **United States Admiralty Chancery Court (1944)**, and dropped it flat atop her head:

*FLAP.*

“Read the codicil, Clara,” the Admiral said, his voice dropping forty decibels of pure, un-forgiving Maine iron:

“Under Clause Fourteen-B of the Master Founding Indenture…”

“Any collateral descendant who attempts to execute a fraudulent probate conveyance against the registered fee-simple property of Conduit Ten… forfeits all personal assets, trusts, and inherited equities unto the United States Treasury ab initio.”

“Evelyn didn’t exclude Julian from the will to leave him penniless, Clara.”

“She excluded him because under Pennsylvania statutory probate law… an inherited asset can be attached by civil creditors and lien-holders.”

“By deeding the house to you… she forced your syndicate to register your names, your corporate routing numbers, and your offshore banking interfaces on the public record.”

“You didn’t steal eight hundred thousand dollars from Evelyn’s estate today, Clara.”

“You spent forty minutes pouring sixty billion dollars of your family’s personal offshore criminal reserves… straight into Julian’s sovereign spendthrift trust.”

“You spent twenty-seven years hunting Daniel Vance’s son…”

The Admiral bared his teeth in a cold, terrifying line of white bone:

“…only to hand him the keys to your entire dynastic empire.”

*CLACK.*

Two SOG tactical operators stepped forward.

Their gloved hands caught Clara Sterling and Donald Sterling-Vance by the lapels of their designer coats, spun them one hundred and eighty degrees against the wall, and drove their faces down onto the shattered glass with three hundred pounds of linear kinetic leverage:

*SLAM.*
