I brought a gift basket to the hospital and heard my husband tell my sister that their son would carry his name — and that I would be paying for it without ever knowing.

That man was going to find out about his wife from me at four in the morning in his own kitchen, which he already had, or he was going to find out in a function room with a microphone.

He had already had one of those. He was not having the other.

What I said was six sentences and it took about fifty seconds.

I said that I was sorry to do it there. I said that on the fourteenth of April my parents had signed a deed transferring 14 Fennimore Way into a company. I said the company is called Northlight Holdings LLC and that the sole managing member of it is Ottavia. I said that as of that evening my parents did not own their home and had not since the spring.

I said: “Dad, I’m sorry. It’s in an envelope. Read it tonight, not now.”

And I put it in his hand and I sat down.

There is a version of that evening where I say the other thing. It was right there. It would have taken eleven words.

I did not, and I want to be clear that this was not nobility.

Roshan Bakshi told me on the eighth of September that if any part of that evening looked like a personal vendetta, it would be used against me in every proceeding that followed for two years.

So I said the smallest true thing that could not be unsaid, and I sat down, and my hands were under the table.

My father read it in the car park at about ten past nine.

He is sixty-five. He was a plant supervisor for thirty-one years and he has never once in his life been out of his depth in public.

And he stood between two cars with a title register in his hands and could not work out what he was looking at, and I had to explain it twice.

The second time, my mother said: “But Kester said it was protected.”

And my father said — and this is the only thing that man has said in fourteen months that I have written down —

“Dagmar. He said it was protected from us.”

Tomas walked out at about twenty to nine.

He did not say anything to anybody. He took the baby and he went, and two people asked me afterward whether he was all right and I said he was tired.

What happened after.

The freezing order landed on the twenty-sixth of September. The flights were cancelled on the twenty-ninth by the airline, because the card that paid for them was Northlight’s.

Kester and Ottavia were charged in February. Forgery, fraud by false representation, and one count each relating to the transfer.

The matter is listed for next spring. I am a witness and there is a great deal I am not permitted to say and I have complied with all of it.

The house.

The transfer was set aside in March of this year, on the basis of undue influence.

It took six months, it cost thirty-eight thousand dollars in legal fees, and I paid every cent of it.

My parents own 14 Fennimore Way again as of the eleventh of March, 2026.

My mother has not thanked me and I have stopped expecting it and I have stopped being surprised at not being surprised.

My father rang me on the twelfth of March and was on the phone for about forty seconds and could not finish a sentence, and that is the closest thing to a thank you that has ever come out of that man and I have decided it counts.

The money.

Of the hundred and forty-one thousand six hundred, sixty-one thousand has been recovered under the freezing order. The rest went in eleven months of a life I paid for and did not attend.

The forged seventy-five thousand guarantee was written off by the lender in January after the handwriting report.

The three cards were closed as fraud in December.

My credit file was corrected in April and it took seven months and forty-one pages of correspondence, and I do that for a living.
