They checked his ID and asked for our statements. I decided to file a complaint because he had grabbed me and prevented me from getting off the train. I wasn’t looking for revenge, but I also refused to let it go as if nothing had happened.
The man was taken aside for further checks. He was no longer laughing or trying to intimidate me.
Once I had finished giving my statement, I turned to the old lady.
“What is your name?”
“Marguerite. But everyone calls me Grandma Marguerite.”
“My name is Korina. And I think today you’ve taught me a lesson I’ll never forget.”
She smiled and adjusted her cane.
“You were the first to have the courage to tell him he wasn’t behaving well. I wasn’t going to leave you alone when he started threatening you.”
I asked her if someone was waiting for her at home. She replied that she lived with her daughter in the suburbs and was returning from a medical appointment. I accompanied her to the platform where she was to catch her next train.
