Evelyn examined them.
Then she looked at me.
“Do you really believe this?”
I stared at her.
“After everything we’ve been through?”
I typed one word.
YES.
Her face hardened.
She stepped closer.
“You know, I always admired you.”
I waited.
“You had everything. Money, influence, success. People listened when you spoke.”
Her voice became colder.

“And I was always standing beside you.”
Samuel interrupted.
“That doesn’t explain the payments.”
Evelyn ignored him.
“Do you know how many times I watched you receive praise for work I helped create?”
I stared.
“Your company would never have grown without me.”
I typed.
I GAVE YOU OWNERSHIP.
She laughed.
“Minor shares. A title. A salary.”
Samuel stood.
“That’s enough.”
Evelyn suddenly leaned toward me.
“You were never supposed to become this difficult.”
The room went silent.
She seemed to realize what she had said.

Samuel reached for his phone.
Evelyn stepped backward.
