My heart tightened.

“Why did David think she was missing?”

“Because she recently found the original company documents.”

Victoria removed another envelope.

“Emma contacted me three weeks ago. She said she had discovered evidence that David’s financial crimes were connected to her mother’s death.”

Samuel examined the envelope.

“Where is she now?”

Victoria hesitated.

“She was supposed to meet me this morning.”

David suddenly laughed.

“You’re all making a terrible mistake.”

Samuel looked at him.

“Which part?”

David pointed toward the medical equipment upstairs.

“She is dying. Nothing you show me changes that.”

Victoria’s face hardened.

“You still don’t understand.”

She removed another document.

“This is the original insurance agreement.”

David’s expression changed.

Victoria continued.

“The policy was taken out using Caroline’s forged signature. The same broker arranged the policy on your current wife’s life.”

Samuel examined the paperwork.

Then he looked at David.
