At two in the morning, after finishing a grueling twelve-hour emergency room shift, I spotted a young woman sitting outside the hospital with two newborn babies.

Standing up for someone you care about doesn’t mean you’re trying to control them.

Sometimes, it simply means refusing to look away when another person needs help.

And when I thought about Emily and those two tiny babies outside the hospital at two in the morning, I knew I’d make the same choice again.

Because sometimes, the smallest act of kindness leads you straight toward a truth your own family has been hiding for years.
