“Who?”
“Your mother.”
I sat back in my chair.
After a moment, I told her to let her in.
Mom walked into the office looking older than I remembered. She glanced at the glass walls, the computers, and the small team working outside.
“It’s impressive,” she said quietly.
“Thank you.”
She sat down.
For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
Then she said, “Connor isn’t doing well.”
I looked at her.
“He’s staying with your father. He hasn’t found another job. Olivia has moved on, and he’s been very depressed.”
I nodded.
“I see.”
“Derek, he’s your brother.”
I turned toward the window.
“Mom, why are you here?”
She hesitated.
“Your father and I think you should help him get back on his feet. You have employees now. You have investors. You could give him a position.”
I almost laughed.
After everything that had happened, they still wanted me to give Connor another opportunity.
