« Actually, » I said, « there’s another person you should meet. »
Bethany approached our table.
She stopped abruptly. « Oh my God. »
Zoe folded her arms. « Hi, Bethany. »
There’s another person you should meet.
Bethany looked between us. « There’s two of you? »
« Identical twins, » I explained.
« Yesterday… »
« Yesterday, you were talking to me. »
Bethany covered her mouth. « But you said… »
Identical twins.
« I barely said anything. I was confused, and you wouldn’t let me explain. »
Her cheeks reddened. « Why didn’t you tell me? »
« I tried. Then everybody surrounded me, and I panicked. »
Ryan stood. « This is ridiculous. »
« Sit down, » Bethany said.
He slowly lowered himself.
I barely said anything.
I turned toward her. « Do you still have that photograph? »
She nodded.
« Show us. »
She opened her phone.
The picture showed Ryan outside a café, standing close to a woman wearing a beige coat and carrying a brown handbag.
