15 Years After Our Divorce, I Met My Ex-Husband’s Mistress’s Son—Then My Twins Won Gold. ⭐

Our eyes met.

She did not gasp.

Did not look shocked.

Claire already knew I was there.

That frightened me more.

Vanessa followed my gaze.

Her face changed.

“No.”

I stood.

She grabbed my sleeve.

“Adrian.”

I pulled free.

“Who are those boys?”

Her eyes hardened.

“Sit down.”

“Who are they?”

People nearby were beginning to look at us.

Noah had turned pale.

Vanessa whispered, “Not here.”

That answer told me everything.

I walked out.

Behind me, she hissed my name.

I did not stop.

The corridor beneath Grand Evermere Auditorium seemed endless.

Tournament staff rushed past carrying equipment and folders. Volunteers congratulated students. Somewhere behind the walls, the audience was still cheering.

I reached the backstage waiting area just as Claire and the boys came through another door.

Leo carried the trophy.

Ethan had two medals hanging against his shirt.

Claire was saying, “Please do not hit your brother with that thing.”

“He started it.”

“I touched the trophy.”

“You tried to steal it.”

“We both won it.”

“I carried the engineering section.”

“You missed question eight.”

“I corrected it.”

Claire laughed.

Then she saw me.

The laughter stopped.

Both boys noticed.

Leo’s expression changed first.

He moved closer to Claire.

Ethan stared at me.

I had imagined many versions of discovering I had children.

None involved realizing they already knew exactly who I was.

“Claire.”

My voice sounded weak.

She looked at me calmly.

“Adrian.”

Fifteen years.

One word each.

I looked at the boys.

“Leo?”

He said nothing.

“Ethan?”

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

I looked back at Claire.

“You knew I was here.”

“You are listed on every sponsor banner in the building.”

“I mean you knew I would see them.”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Leo laughed once.

Not kindly.

Claire touched his arm.

He stopped.

She looked at me.

“You want to ask me why I didn’t tell you?”

I heard my own question then.

How absurd it sounded.

“I thought…”

I stopped.

Claire waited.

“I was told you lost the pregnancy.”

Her expression barely changed.

“By whom?”

I looked back toward the hallway.

“Vanessa.”

For the first time, Claire showed surprise.

Then she smiled.

Not warmly.

“Of course.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means Vanessa solved a problem for you and you never asked whether the solution was true.”

I felt sick.

“I didn’t know they existed.”

“No.”

Claire nodded.

“You did not.”

“Did you try to contact me?”

Ethan looked away.

That answer came before hers.

Claire said, “For almost a year.”

My throat tightened.

“How?”

“Phone calls. Emails. Letters.”

“I never received letters.”

“I know.”

“How?”

“Because three were returned.”

She opened her handbag and removed a small folded document pouch.

I stared at it.

“You brought those?”

“I brought them because fifteen years ago I learned that memory becomes very convenient when powerful people are involved.”

She opened the pouch.

Three envelopes.

My old company address.

My name.

Return to sender.

One had been stamped refused.

I touched nothing.

Claire continued.

“I called your office after Leo and Ethan were born.”

I looked at the boys.

“Twins.”

My voice broke.

Claire ignored it.

“Your assistant told me personal messages were not being accepted.”

“I never gave that instruction.”

“I know who did.”

Vanessa’s voice came from behind me.

“Claire.”

We all turned.

Vanessa stood at the end of the corridor.

Noah was several feet behind her.

His face looked miserable.

Vanessa walked toward us.

She looked at the boys once.

Then at Claire.

“This is completely inappropriate.”

Claire almost laughed.

“What is?”

“Bringing them here knowing Adrian was the primary sponsor.”

“They qualified.”

“You know what I mean.”

“No.”

Claire folded her arms.

“Explain it.”

Vanessa glanced toward me.

“We should discuss this privately.”

I asked, “Did you block Claire’s letters?”
